Our Rich History

Johnson Heating & Air Conditioning was started in 1912 by Gullek Johnson. In 1911, Gullek Johnson graduated from The International Correspondence Schools in Scranton Pennsylvania with a Sheet-Metal Pattern Drafting Degree. Johnson Sheetmetal Shop was located on Washington Ave in Albert Lea, MN. In 1920 Johnson Sheetmetal Shop became a dealer for Lennox Furnace Company located in Marshalltown, IA. Johnson’s was the 15th Lennox dealer in the nation and there currently are over 7,000 dealers worldwide. With the progression of gas fired furnaces and refrigeration air conditioners Johnson Sheetmetal Shop then transitioned into Johnson Heating & Air Conditioning.

In the early 1960’s Johnson Heating & Air Conditioning was purchased by Richard and Donald Johnson. Don and Rich operated the business for several years; eventually, Don sold his portion of the business to Rich and relocated to Florida. Kevin and Paul Johnson started working with their father (Richard) in the early 70’s while enrolled in the Union’s
4-year Sheetmetal Program. Kevin and Paul Johnson then purchased the business from their Father.
